How to Use Tech to your Advantage this Holiday

IT Service Management Tips

“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year… 🎶🎵” sings loudly offkey 🙂

When I was much younger, I used to ask why the Christmas season is said to be the most wonderful time of the year. Don’t get me wrong, back then, I always enjoyed the whole mood the season brings, and the fact that I would be visiting some of my cousins, aunts, and uncles is a feeling that I can’t trade for anything else in the world!

But to be honest, adulthood has made me appreciate the holiday season a thousand times more! I am sure you know why already. Lol 😊

This article is not really about Christmas; maybe, it is actually. But I wouldn’t want to take you on a long journey about my Christmas holiday chronicles, probably some other time.

Let’s go back to the main topic, shall we?

The holiday season is a time when most businesses close for the year, and employees take a well-deserved break to refresh, spend quality time with family, enjoy the euphoria the seasons bring, and prepare for the new year.

Tech remains a major part of our lives in this age, and since we will not be taking a break from the use of technology this holiday, I thought it would be best to write “How to Use Tech to your Advantage this Holiday”, or you can call it “Holiday Tech Tips”, so stay with me! 😊

Staying connected

I understand that this holiday is for family time, but it will be lovely not to forget to reach out to that colleague that once helped you fix your laptop issues or covered for you when you were away from work.

My point is, we can get carried away with the fun and joy of the season and forget to reach out to some of our dear colleagues at work. Gladly, this is where technology comes through to assist us.

It will be really nice to have a virtual call that doesn’t involve work during the break; this will help you bond better with your team ahead of the new year.

I am super glad for tools like Microsoft Teams that offer capabilities such as meeting setups and video conferencing that can help you stay connected.

We had an episode on Microsoft Teams some weeks ago, and you can catch up with it here: Episode 4 – “Is Microsoft Teams Really Difficult to Use?”

Managing your time

One of the few mysteries I am yet to unravel is how time flies!

I can literally remember resuming back to work early this year from the holidays, and now, here we are wrapping up for the year!

Time is constant, yet it feels like it paces and slows down at different moments…

Okay, I am not a physicist, nor am I establishing any theory here, but I am sure you get what I mean! 😊

The holiday is an opportunity to refresh, relax and, most importantly, make plans for the coming year. So, to ensure that you make a proper use of your time, I suggest you take advantage of a task management tool. A great example is “Microsoft To-Do”.

Microsoft To-Do is a simple and intelligent to-do list that helps you manage all your tasks in one place. With Microsoft To-Do, you will be able stay organized and get reminded of all pending tasks.

Staying secure

This is quite important, cause cybercriminals never rest. I mean, why can’t they also just go on holiday? ☹

Email phishing scams and ransomware attacks have been known to be very rampant during holidays. Most likely because attackers believe that most organisations would have dropped their guard, and it is the best time to strike.

I will strongly advice you to stay extra alert during the break!

Cybersecurity solutions like Sophos Home & Intercept X for mobile can help you keep your mobile devices and home PCs safe from attacks. It will be terrible if your company’s data is stolen due to a breach from your end. ☹

I am not being a pessimist; you really need to stay vigilant this holiday, and if you need more advice on how to best protect your business data and assets, feel free to reach out to us.

We also shared some insights on our podcast on “How to Tackle Cybercrimes in Nigeria”, it will be quite useful for you.

I do hope to enjoy the holiday to the fullest, and, most importantly, make the best use of technology. I hope you will too!
